Meet the Brewmaster

take a break from brewing to sample their efforts from a hard days work.
 

Greetings from the brewhouse! As brewmaster at Flossmoor Station Brewing Co., it’s my pleasure to craft each and every beer here at the Station. Here’s a little about me and what we do around here:

I arrived at Flossmoor Station via three Chicagoland breweries and the world of teaching. While spending a lot of time homebrewing and some time in a volunteer position at the Glen Ellyn Brewing Company, (Free beer and lunch now and again – hardly volunteer work!) I decided to leave my first career as a science teacher. Eventually, the volunteer position turned into an Assistant Brewers position, and as they say, the rest is history. Additional training at the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago helped prepare me for what lie ahead.

The assistant brewer’s job turned out to be a short-term stint, however, as the FireHouse Restaurant and Brewing Company in Morris, needed a Brewmaster. I accepted that position and led the brewery for about 15 months. Toss in a part-time gig at Two Brothers Brewing Company in Warrenville, and I was a busy brewer.

In the summer of 2003, I learned that long time Flossmoor Station brewer Todd Ashman had accepted a new position and would be moving on. The timing couldn't have been better. Since then, I have been attempting to continue the fine tradition of world class beers that Todd and FSBC began. Currently, I am working on this goal with brewer Andrew Mason, a graduate of Columbia College and a former student of mine. I guess you can't get enough of a good thing!" In the fall of 2007 he also attended the Siebel Institute.

In the Fall of 2006 we wore fortunate to earn our greatest honor. At the Great American Beer Festival in Denver Colorado, we were named the Small Brewpub of the Year and I was named Small Brewpub Brewer of the year. I hope you’ll stop by for some of our award winning beer.

I now reside in Channahon with my wife, Jenni, and my two children Nick and Ella. In my free time I enjoy playing all kinds of sports, watching the Cubs, spending time outdoors with my family, and of course, drinking the perfect pint (or two) of beer.
